Artist Statement

I am a New York-based artist working with oil and /or water-based media. Stylistically my work favors the old Master school of still life painters: Bosch, Cezanne and Picasso. I work from life: the found and/or created still life – including the nude placed in various architectural and open environments, which often incorporate a coupling of things not usually found together in a given space. Using an organic linear quality in contrast to geometric angles, with opacities in opposition to transparencies, enable me to explore the ambiguity of positive and negative space. The resulting linear quality is akin to an improvisational rhythm found in jazz music. These “jazz riffs,” employed through color, design and broken patterns investigate psychic layers of reality and offer a perceptual peek at the subconscious soul of humanity.
