I am a New York-based artist working with oils or water-based media. Stylistically my art favors the Old Masters school of still life painters. I work from life: the found and/or created still life—including references to femininity and a coupling of objects not usually found together. Using an organic linear quality in contrast to geometric angles, with opacities in opposition to transparencies, enables me to explore the ambiguity of positive and negative space. The resulting linear quality is akin to an improvisational rhythm found in jazz music. These “jazz riffs,” expressed through color, design and broken patterns, investigate psychic layers of reality and offer a perceptual peek at the subconscious soul of humanity.
